Dover Citizens Police Academy Starting 04/06/2010
Sponsored by the Dover Police AssociationThe Dover Police Association (DPA) is pleased to announce the City’s first Citizen Police Academy beginning April 6th, 2010.
The free nine week program will feature informative instruction on topics such as Crime Scene Investigation, Domestic Violence, Accident Investigation, Community Policing, Defensive Tactics, and Firearms. Class size will be limited and participants must be at least 18 years of age. Most instructional classes will meet on Tuesday nights from 6-9 pm in the McConnell Center Cafeteria located at 61 Locust Street in Dover. There will be off site classes and participants will be able to ride in police cruisers with officers.
The DPA represents the non-ranking members of the Dover Police Department and will oversee the curriculum which will provide insight into the inner workings of their agency. Members of the DPA have agreed to volunteer their time to facilitate the program.
Police Chief Anthony F. Colarusso states “I was very impressed when members of the Dover Police Association approached me with the offer to conduct this Academy. In addition to the many other volunteer activities they do throughout the year, they wanted to do even more for the Community. The commitment that the officers and civilian staff have is truly commendable.”
Each week a light meal will be provided courtesy of eleven local businesses, to include LaFesta Pizza, Oriental Delight, Weeksies Pizza, Kreative Katering, Kelleys Row, Café on the Corner, The Barley Pub, Cartelli’s Bar and Grill, Kendall Pond Pizza, The Green Bean Cafe and Café Ciabatta.
